Small-Sided Games, Passing, Attacking, Defending

Description

3v3 game without goals. A team scores a goal when they control the ball behind the opponent's end line. If the whole team moves towards the ball, there is nobody behind the line to receive the pass. One player stays high and breaks in behind the defender. The animation first shows the common mistake and then the correct way. Area of approximately 20 × 20 m, and a two-metre zone behind each end line. The receiver must control the ball behind the line. A shot or dribbling over the line is not enough.

Quality Factors

An attacker stays high, close to the line, and does not come short to receive the ball. Run in behind the defender when the defender is looking at the ball. Pass behind the line into space, ahead of the run, and not to feet. The receiver controls the ball behind the line. The defenders track the run in behind and do not just keep watching the ball.

Key Questions

  • Which of us is close to the line when the ball is in our half? When do you start the run in behind the defender? Do you play the pass into the space behind the line or to feet, and why? Defenders: how do you recognise that someone is breaking in behind?
