Futsal sole passes and 1v1 to four markers - soccer drill

Translated from Finnish ·

Dribbling, 1 vs 1, First touch

Description

In pairs, one ball per pair. Mark out an approximately 10 × 10 metre grid and place a marker in the middle of each side. The pairs pass to each other and receive the ball with the sole of the foot. After each pass, both move a quarter turn clockwise, and the player receiving the ball takes it along. When the pair has gone all the way around the circle and is facing each other again, the 1v1 begins. Either player can start the attack. Stopping the ball under control at a side marker is one point; beat an opponent and stop it at the marker behind them for three points. Make it more difficult by having the player on the ball keep the ball for as long as possible before scoring a point. If the opponent wins the ball cleanly, they attack immediately.

Quality Factors

Receive the ball with the sole of the foot, with the non-kicking foot knee bent and weight on the balls of the feet. Move immediately to the next position after the pass. The player receiving the ball takes it along close to the foot. Before the 1v1, eyes on the opponent and the space on both sides of them. Beat an opponent with a touch past them and stop the ball with the sole on the marker. As the defender, win the ball cleanly; kicking it away is only a last resort.

Key Questions

  • Which surface stops the ball better, the sole or the inside of the foot, and why?
  • Where do you look when you take the ball with you?
  • When do you go for the three-point marker and when do you take the safe point at the side?
  • When is the opponent close enough that it is worth shielding the ball?
