Line Passing 1/3 — Football Drill

passing, first_touch

Four players in a straight line 5–10 meters apart, each position marked. The top player starts with the ball. The two in the middle open up from their marks to the side of the line, to different sides, and receive the ball in an open position. The ball travels through the line: the top player passes to the first middle player, this one to the second, and this one to the bottom player. Once at the end, the middle players return to their marks and the same happens back the other way, but now both open up to the opposite side. Start with two touches and move to one as the pattern progresses.

Line Passing 1/3 - football drill

Open up from your mark to the side before the pass is made, and time your departure with the passer's movement. Look at the next receiver before the ball arrives. Support foot behind the ball, strike the ball in the center with the inside of the foot, follow through in the direction of the pass. First touch away from the line in the direction the next pass will go. Body in an open position and head up, so that both ends of the line are visible.

When do you start moving from your mark? In which direction do you guide your first touch and why exactly there?
