Two players stay over the ball and start acting out a disagreement about who will take the shot. Meanwhile, a third player walks calmly into his position off to the side, never looking at the ball. While the argument is going on, the ball rolls to him, and the shot is taken with the first touch from a new angle where the wall doesn’t have time to turn. The pattern lives or dies with the walker: the moment he glances at the ball or switches to a run too early, the defense reads the play. The pass is made only when the walker is a step away from the shooting spot.
Attention diversion and the third man: the defense watches the dispute, the walker arrives from the blind side, and the shot is taken from an angle the wall can’t get to in time.
How does the passer know the right moment if he can’t look at the walker too clearly? Why take the shot with one touch even if controlling it feels safer? What gives the pattern away to the opponent first, and how can it be hidden? When should you leave the same pattern unused?
