Fill the Area Relay — Football Drill

dribbling

Mark a square area with cones, about 3 x 3 meters, and place a starting cone about 20 meters away. The line stands at the starting cone, each with their own ball. The first player carries their ball to the area, leaves it inside the area, and runs back to the end of the line without the ball. The next player starts as soon as the previous one has left their ball. The cycle continues until all balls are in the area. Two teams pull this off simultaneously in their own areas. The one that gets their balls in the area first wins. The pattern shows the position of the other team. The other is similar on the other side of the field. The ball must stay inside the area. The exercise can continue so that in the second round, the balls are retrieved from the area.

Fill the Area Relay - football drill

In open space, long touch and long stride, touch with the instep or outside of the foot with toes pointing towards the ground. Weight on the balls of the feet for balance throughout the dribble. Head up, observing the ball with peripheral vision. Eyes do not stay on the ball even as speed increases. Slow down before the edge of the area, not on the last step, so that the ball stops inside the area and does not roll out. Return run without the ball at full speed directly to the end of the line.

How does a long touch fit into open space, and how does it differ from tight space? When do you start slowing down so that the ball stays inside the area? What do your eyes do when the ball is at your feet and the speed is high? Which foot do you dribble with, and why that one?
