Cone Dribbling Variations — Football Drill

dribbling

Set up cones at a reasonable distance so that multiple touches occur between them. In Phase 1, navigate around the cones using various dribbling techniques (free, sole, outside/inside edge turns, etc.). In Phase 2, rotate around the cones completely using either the inside or outside edge.

The distances between the cones are long, so there are many touches: instep or outside edge, toes pointing towards the ground, weight on the balls of the feet. Head up, ball in peripheral vision, eyes not fixed on the cone. At the cone, touches become more frequent and steps shorten, knees bent and center of gravity lowered. The supporting foot positions itself according to which edge you are using to navigate, and the ball stays within reach throughout the maneuver. After the maneuver, switch rhythm: sharp acceleration step and longer touches towards the next cone.

How does your touch change between the cones compared to at the cone? Which foot and edge are you using to navigate around the cone — what determines your choice?
