Finishing, Shooting

Description

Split the players into three equal groups in front of the goal, with a goalkeeper in goal. The blue players are on the left, the yellow players on the right, and the red players near the right corner. The yellow players and the red players have balls. The first blue player starts a run, and the yellow player plays a pass into his path. The blue player dribbles briefly at full speed and shoots at goal. Immediately afterwards, he finishes from the red player's cross. After that, all three switch places: the finisher goes to the red queue, the crosser to the yellow queue, and the passer to the blue queue. Every shot should be on target.

Quality Factors

Play the pass into the runner's path, not to feet. First touch in the direction of the run, without losing speed. When shooting, the non-kicking foot is behind the ball, strike with the instep and keep the body leaning forwards, not leaning back. The finisher attacks the cross on the move and glances at the goalkeeper before the finish.

Key Questions

  • Where do you play the pass when the runner is at full speed?
  • Which direction do you guide the first touch and why?
  • How do you recognise that the goalkeeper is on the wrong side?
  • When do you move towards the cross when the red player dribbles to the end line?
