Passing and first touch on the move — Football Drill

Passing, First touch · U9+

A three-player drill where one player is in the center of a square marked with cones and the other two are positioned at passing distances on either side. The drill starts with a pass in motion: the player in the middle tries to guide the ball with the first touch out of the square and then immediately pass it to the third player. After the pass, the players move back into the center, and the middle player fills the empty spot.

Passing and first touch on the move - football drill

Make an anticipatory decision on the direction of the first touch before the ball arrives. First touch to play the ball out of the square, body facing toward the third player. Support foot behind the ball, contact point in the middle of the ball with the inside of the foot, head up until the moment of contact. Move into the center immediately after the pass—don’t watch your own pass.

Which side do you direct your first touch to, and how do you decide? What do you look at before the ball comes under your foot?
