3v2 breaking through from wide areas — Football Drill

First touch, Possession, Finishing

The front three move the ball and look for the free side to attack from - the defenders switch sides and protect the centre. When the attack can go down the flank, the two attackers off the ball look for a finishing opportunity directly from the pass.

Quality Factors

The attacking players' passing and control, as well as awareness of free space. Quick reaction to breaking through. The second defender always protects the centre.

Key Questions

• How can the ball be moved quickly into a bigger space where it is easier to attack? Good first touch (perhaps straight through your own wide gate).
• Can the wide player off the ball take the initiative and make a run to the end line, with the ball played into that space rather than to feet?
