Diamond Passing โ€” Football Drill

passing, first_touch ยท U9+

Four players position themselves in a diamond shape. The ball circulates clockwise: the bottom point passes to the side point, the side point to the top, the top to the other side point, and back down. The passer follows the ball to the next point.

The first touch directs the ball forward. Passes are crisp and along the ground. Diagonal passes, opening-up angles, and continuous movement after the pass are the core of the drill.

Where does the first touch direct the ball โ€” toward the passing direction or standing still? Are you already moving when the ball leaves? Does the pass go in the air? Why?
