Create a numbers advantage by creating a gap in the middle of the pitch (U8–U9) — Football Drill

U8+

On short restarts from the goalkeeper with players in their positions, one of the two wingers sprints toward the open space behind the opposing attacker. At the moment our winger moves, the goalkeeper can play short to either the defender to his right or left, so that he can then find the free player in the middle. When the central player receives the ball, our attacker should run into the open channel to pull his marker toward him, opening up the field for the ball carrier. If the central player is found and is not being tracked by his marker, he can turn and progress with the ball toward the opponent’s goal to look for a key pass to one of our wingers or to shoot. Otherwise, if the central player is found but is being followed by his marker, he should try to find his defender or the goalkeeper again to avoid losing possession.
